NovoBind Livestock Therapeutics is an agri-biotech company working to combat rising antibiotic resistance. We do this by developing next generation biologics that target and neutralize the specific bacteria, viruses, and parasites that cause microbiome-based ailments in livestock and aquaculture. Our novel biotherapeutic solutions, based on nanobodies (or single domain antibodies), present an innovative alternative to conventional treatments.

The impact of our work is economic and social—and widespread. Our targeted antimicrobials help to prevent animal diseases, improving the health and treatment of livestock while reducing the risk of major outbreaks. This in turn prevents economic losses in the agriculture and aquaculture industries, and stops dangerous pathogens from entering the environment or reaching the consumer food market. Our work even crosses over into the health of companion animals and plants, and may one day yield solutions for human illnesses as well.

Responsibilities

​

    A) IP Director Responsibilities

1. Contribute to global patent strategy decisions

2. Support all IP transaction strategy, organization and execution (Due Diligence, research, outreach and related activities)

3. Coordinate, file, maintain and defend all intellectual property (including patents and patent applications, translations, trademarks and confidentiality) and ensure IP deadlines are met as needed

4. Submit all supporting documentation for patents and trademarks and maintain patent files and patent and trademark database

5. Track patent and trademark budget including the review of all patent and trademark related invoices

6. Perform patent, literature and key opinion search independently and with our team of innovators to prepare, maintain and manage our portfolio of novel technologies

7. Provide monthly/quarterly updates on patent portfolios

    B) R&D Director Responsibilities

1. Participate in high-level R&D strategic discussions

2. Provide expert knowledge in all areas of relevant biologics development and industrial design efforts

3. Support HR activities, including recruitment, training and team development

4. Assist with preparing and assembling grant proposals and contract documentation

5. Liaise with funding agencies regarding available grant or funding opportunities

6. Support collaborative research with internal and external stakeholders by managing various R&D initiatives and projects

7. Manage licensing, commercialization, collaborations, and other related agreements as needed

8. Implement process to manage, track and approve scientific disclosures by internal stakeholders

9. Actively keep up with current scientific literature relevant to NovoBind’s R&D pipeline

10. Manage library literature subscriptions/access

Qualification and Experience

1. Registered Canadian and US patent agent or lawyer with 3 – 5 years patent experience

2. PhD with 5 – 10 years R&D experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or a related field

3. Experience working with translators

4. Experience in supervisory role and/or in a biotech start-up company is an asset
