NovoBind Livestock Therapeutics is an agri-biotech company working to combat rising antibiotic resistance. We do this by developing next generation biologics that target and neutralize the specific bacteria, viruses, and parasites that cause microbiome-based ailments in livestock and aquaculture. Our novel biotherapeutic solutions, based on nanobodies (or single domain antibodies), present an innovative alternative to conventional treatments.

The impact of our work is economic and social—and widespread. Our targeted antimicrobials help to prevent animal diseases, improving the health and treatment of livestock while reducing the risk of major outbreaks. This in turn prevents economic losses in the agriculture and aquaculture industries, and stops dangerous pathogens from entering the environment or reaching the consumer food market. Our work even crosses over into the health of companion animals and plants, and may one day yield solutions for human illnesses as well.

Responsibilities

1. Share our passion for scientific excellence and fast-paced R&D

2. Supervise junior staff and act as the bridge of communication between junior staff and management

3. Support and collaborate effectively with colleagues to meet project timelines

4. Continually broaden your skill set by participating in projects throughout NovoBind’s R&D pipeline. Techniques and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

   • Conduct in vitro assays for functional characterization

   • Cloning, protein expression and protein purification

   • General lab duties including inventory management, shipping and receiving of samples, record keeping, equipment maintenance, etc.

5. Follow directions and written protocols accurately

6. Effectively use knowledge, judgement and understanding of specific procedures to maximize accuracy and productivity

7. Record data accurately and present results effectively in technical reports and group meetings

8. Contribute ideas in scientific discussions

9. Optimize assays in collaboration with scientists

10. Implement and maintain new procedures and protocols

 

Qualification and Experience

1. Master’s degree with 2 to 3 years industrial experience in biological sciences (molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, parasitology, immunology, or aquaculture) or Bachelor’s degree with 5 to 10 years of industrial experience

2. Experience in a supervisory role and/or in a biotech start-up company is an asset

3. Experience with biopanning and purification is an asset

 

Skills Required

1. Conduct professional practice according to established protocols, safety guidelines and existing legislation

2. Verify relevant data and ensure that appropriate samples are procured according to established protocols

3. Analyze samples and validate results using established protocols

4. Understand the principles and performs proper analytical techniques on samples that originate from a variety of sources

5. Interpret, communicate and document confidential data, using scientific knowledge as the basis

6. Practice and promote the principles of quality management and the efficient utilization of resources

7. Apply critical thinking skills to constructively solve problems

8. Address workplace challenges by applying skills in change management, time management, materials management and information management

9. Project a professional image and interact in a competent manner, using effective listening, verbal and written communication in dealings with others

10. Meet the legal and ethical requirements of practice

11. Demonstrate ability to supervise junior team members
