NovoBind Livestock Therapeutics is an agri-biotech company working to combat rising antibiotic resistance. We do this by developing next generation biologics that target and neutralize the specific bacteria, viruses, and parasites that cause microbiome-based ailments in livestock and aquaculture. Our novel biotherapeutic solutions, based on nanobodies (or single domain antibodies), present an innovative alternative to conventional treatments.

The impact of our work is economic and social—and widespread. Our targeted antimicrobials help to prevent animal diseases, improving the health and treatment of livestock while reducing the risk of major outbreaks. This in turn prevents economic losses in the agriculture and aquaculture industries, and stops dangerous pathogens from entering the environment or reaching the consumer food market. Our work even crosses over into the health of companion animals and plants, and may one day yield solutions for human illnesses as well.

Responsibilities

1. Coordinate with Laboratory Operations Associate and department heads to ensure project deliverables are met

2. Report to the Heads of Discovery, Assay and Operations

3. Schedule assays and discovery tasks for scientists and technicians to perform

4. Keep track of molecules of interest from selection to in vitro testing  

5. Review and analyze experimental data, and ensure proper data documentation is maintained

6. Acquire knowledge and hands-on experience on all assays and discovery experiments performed at NovoBind

7. Train, mentor and supervise team members on assay and discovery experiments

8. Provide support to technicians when technical issues arise

9. Revise and review protocols to ensure they are up to date

Qualification and Experience

1. PhD with 1 – 3 years R&D experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in microbiology, molecular biology or related field

2. Experiences with in vitro assays, antibody discovery and protein purification in the field of veterinary science, agriculture and/or aquaculture

3. Experience in supervisory role in an industry research laboratory setting

4. Experience in a biotech start-up company is an asset
